Red top, blue top, silver top

Ok....I've been seeing a lot of discussion about red tops, blue tops, and silver tops. I've come to the conclusion that they are different versions of corolla (AE86, AE92 etc...) Am I right? And what are the differences?

the top colors do not refer to cars but rather different engine variations of the 4ag.

bluetop=big port 4age with TVIS...115hp

redtop=small port 4age non-tvis....130hp

silvertop=quad throttle body 4age vvt 20v with AFM...165ps

blacktop=quad throttle body 4age vvt(i?? not sure) 20v with MAP....170ps

i was told i have a red top and i have yet to see this 130hp. i have lost little races to every car i have ever gone against exp. cavi, prodige, crx, sunbird. i have looked at all the specs for these cars and the all have lower or the same hp.

I think that depends on your engines condition.

that's what i thought b4 cause i read it somewhere the 88-89 are blue tops where the 90-91 are red

but then i read the stuff above and it says
lettering on cam covers determines what top it is

well untill the next meet when someone takes a look at it and lets me know for sure i'm jus gonna think i have a healty blue top instead of a unhealthy red top cause i dont feel any power from this motor

redtops should be known as small ports.

bluetops aka bigports

BUT

all AE92s have "redtops"..however, early AE92s have the bigports even the valvecovers are red lettered, later 92s have smallports

they all have 7 rib blocks however.

is urs the non-tvis small port?

i dunno man....i raced vs an sir and kept up after i fixed the problems i had on my motor(mind u i have I/E...which helps minimally lmao). so i think on a rebuilt redtop....with intake and exhaust...will really move.

throw in some cams and boom...u got a quick car.

bigport aint shitty! it has better torque characteristics than a small port....but small port has high end power to reckon with.
