Seeking advice on performance tuning 1994 Corolla

Hi,

Sorry if this is a naive question, but I hope the experienced members of this forum will bear with me. I recently acquired a 1994 Corolla (DX) from a family memeber. The car is in excellent shape and runs quite well, despite have 200k miles on it. I'm interested in learning more about performance tuning, and I'm wondering what sorts of things I could reasonably do to increase the horsepower of this particular car. For instance, say I wanted to get an extra 30-40hp out of it, how might I go about doing that? Is that even possible for this car (assuming a reasonable budget, etc)?

Thanks,

-Mark

A good way to get reasonable gain on it would be to put performance cams, stiffer valve springs, smaller cam gears, Cold air intake and Manifold back exaust (Headers + Hi-Flow Cat + Larger pipe & muffler).

That would give you reasonable gains on a fairly decent budget (you'd be looking at around AU$2k here)

presuming the car is in good shape- good compression, no oil leaks, not burning any oil, etc etc

a small shot of nitrous would be a safe and cheap way to get the extra power

....unless it's time to swap a AE101 4A-GE 20v silvertop, AE111 blacktop, or late model 4AGZE. Sure it's alot of moolah but it's worth it. Is your car 5 speed?
