ok, I fucked up....

i just went to inspect my CAI and went to see how clean or dirty it was and was taking of that electrical plug that feeds in the filter or whatever between the cai filter and throttle body. i unscred the two screws and found connections. so i put it all back. and heard so hissing or something comming from electrical wires. def not pipes because it happened when i was messing with the electrical thing.throttle body was decent.

go and start car and car wont start. it wont turn over. so what do i do?

Cut open the black plastic lid on the AFM and see if you can fix the connections.

Just cut around the silicone seal and pop the lid off.

If you can't fix it you'll have to get another AFM.

The plug comes off. Just wiggle one side then the other and it'll come off.

What wire? The harness that plugs into the AFM?

Anyways your problem is not with the wire / harness. Its with the AFM itself. When you removed those 2 screws and pulled out the connector you broke some of the connections.

So your only option is to cut open the lid and see if you can fix the connections or get another AFM (go junkyard hunting).

No.

the afm measures the amount of air the engine recieves so it can compensate for the fuel mixture. If you can even get the car to run without it somehow by rigging it somehow then the car will run very rich and probably rough.

ok when i installed my CAI i messed with this thing, now that i look back on it. after installing I ran car, black smoke had been a problem since then. so im guessing i messed the AFM up before and it wasnt regualting air correctly giving me a rich fuel mixture. black smoke means rich right?

so this explains black smoke?

im gonna replace it ASAP, for now my brother takes me to school...lol

hopefully after replacing my car runs fine without black smoke and bad/ rough idle.....

No you can't run a vehicle without the air flow meter. The AFM controls the fuel pump along with the amount of air comming into the engine. What you see if cars that were not built with an AFM they either have a MAP sensor and intake air temp sensor or they have a Mass air flow sensor.

No.

I guess I can cut it open and take a pic of it since my engine is blown and torn apart anyways.

I'll post the pic up later on after I cut open the lid.

Yup. Just put the lid back on after your done and seal around the gap.

If the car is equipped with a AFM, it has to be connected otherwise it will not run.

Yes, the plug can come off. You don't use the screws though (as 88LE said). There is a small metal clip that goes around the connector. Pry that up carefully with a small screwdriver and carefully unplug the connector. It should be pretty easy.

Good luck.
