The Polarg bulbs are just rebranded GE's. I got Japanese-made Toshiba HIRs, low beam and high beam, from Candlepower Inc and I love 'em on my Camry and SC!

True dat. The Toshiba ones I got don't look like any headlight bulb I've ever had. The glass is sort of almost spherical but with a pointy end and barrel-shaped sides. Funkatron!

Now if only my camera would play nice with my computer, I could put up some pix...

The lumens rating for a low-beam Polargs HIR bulb is VERY CLOSE when comparing to Philips 6000k Utions HID bulb (1850lm vs 2000lm)
Actually, the Philips 6000k Ultinon D2S are rated at 2400lm on FAQ lighting and VisualDynamics.ca

http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/hl-hid-bulbs.htm

From that point, the IPF/Polarg HIR bulbs aren't really comparable to HID's. They aren't even remotely close to the true 4100K HID's which rated at 3200lm!

according to what you said the 6000k kit is a 2400lm, which would mean the high beam HIR has +1000 lumens on that (2500lm).. i dont even have a toyota but im considering getting either HIR or a HID conversion, now i know all about the optics of the hid retrofit but personally i want better vision and i will be able to cut alot of the excess glare.. but now im wondering after about 300 dollars spent on 2 pairs of piaas and ricer bulbs... is HIR really worth it compared to the stock 9005 conversion that im running now?.
