Tranny Cooler *pics*

I had my tranny cooler installed a few weeks ago and decided to snap a few shots and share with ya'll. The quality of the pics are kinda crappy though.

It was installed by T-Lex with mounting brackets instead of the zip-ties supplied by the manufacturer. This was done to create a gap for air to circulate all around the unit.

I got the cooler from a local dealer for CAD$80. It's a Tru-Cool made by a company called Long/Dana and I've been told by Ekam that it's identical to the B&M one. The dimensions are 7 1/4 x 11 x 3/4 with a 18,000 gross vehicle weight rating and 13,000 BTU rating. It also uses Low Pressure Drop technology. Visit their website for more info (here) <-- The server isn't always functional

In addition, I also flushed the tranny and refilled with Redline High Temp ATF.

I heard a lot about these tranny coolers and how they double your transmissions life. What I would like to know is were does the fluid go and how does it get cooled? How is the cooler connected to the tranny?

The oil cooler is connected in series with the radiator.

(Tranny)---fluid---> [radiator]--->{Cooler}--->(Tranny)

The cooler is just like a mini rad which circulates the fluid through numerous channels.

First off, the zip-ties are flimsy and I doubt they'd last long. Secondly, mounting using the brackets allows me to keep it off the rad and leave a gap for air.

way to go Phi looks just like my B&M, which was suprisingly $80 as well... (do you smell conspiracy?)

anyways... tranny coolers should be mandatory for every A/T vehicle... especially a FI car like yours.

propper installation is tranny, cooler, rad, tranny, that way you maintain proper operating temperature, especially important in winter

now on the track where you're always pushing it might be better the way you have it set up, but for everyday the way above is much better

^ I totally agree with you and was debating the issue myself. I figured, I don't drive my car that often in the winter, especially not during frigid tempuratures. If I did, I'd just let the car warm up alittle longer. Secondly, the way the cooler is designed, it directs the thicker, cold fluid to flow through the top rails. As it gets hotter and thinner the fluid is allowed to flow through the entire cooler. This design reduces the possability of dangerous pressure drops.
Thirdly, by-passing the stock cooler and going to the cooler first would void the warranty (not that my warantee is in tact )

Stealth: shouldn't be more than 0.5-1hr labour

I just re-read the PDF file briefly describing the cooler and the installation details. They describe installing the cooler "in series and downstream of the in-tank radiator oil cooler"
So does downstream mean before or after the rad? I inturpret is as being after the rad. ( I are a FOB and do bad engrish :o )
