i believe my valve guides are toast, so how about changing them? i'm probably due for a head gasket replacement as well so 2 birds one stone

is it possible to change these out? need special tools? how about putting them back in? must need some sort of way to hold them in there

I suggest that you take it to a machine shop, engine builder, or a place that works on cylinder heads.

The valve guides are not something you can replace yourself unless you know what your doing.

yeah 88 le is right.

first the guides have to be machined out then the new ones have to be pressed in (very precise)

Cool Valve guide replacement

Changing valve guides need special tools for removal and replacement also you will have to ream the new guides once they have been installed. I replace the guides on every head we build for competition.

Your clearance should be no more than 0.001" max. between guide and valve. 0.00025 and 0.0005 is ideal.

I think you meant valve seals instead of valve guides.

If your going to pull the head / heads off the only special tool you need is a overhead valve spring compressor.
