Thing wired to the MAF sensor ticking ... kinda loud???

I'm getting an audible ticking from the thing wired to the MAF thats clipped to the side of the intake on my tC? (I'll try and get a pic of it tomorrow)
I get it from time to time at least once a day. With the hood closed it sounds like loud valve tick but with the hood is up its most definitely coming from the thing clipped to the side of the intake connected to the MAF. I'll get my hands greasy any day but other than stereo stuff I tend to stay away from the electronic guts of a new car. It doesn't seem to me like it's suppose to make that sound tho ... I'm at 27700mi and this is already the second MAF.

Any ideas?

tia.

I'm told its the "vsv"... part of warm idle system and that its normal. I'm picking up some parts this weekend so I'm going to have it looked at.

I can't remember the exact name of it but MEANIE is right, it is a VSV, and on the matrix if you install TRD's CAI, it's fully exposed and sounds like you've got some SERIOUS lifter ticking going on when it's active.

P.S. There's a way to quiet it down. When Mike gets back from lunch...I'll ask him and then I'll tell you.

OK, well mike is back and it's official name is "I don't know but it's a VSV". LoL

What he did is isolate it from the chassis of the vehicle, which on a matrix when you install a CAI you bolt the VSV to the apron giving it direct contact to the metal and making it REALY loud. Get some rubber bushings and put them between the bracket and whatever you have the VSV bolted to and that will help make it a little quieter but it will still make noise and it's just something you kinda have to deal with.

Vacuum Switching Valve. When activated it Purges evaporative emmisions from the charcoal canister to mix with intake air.
