Not sure, but is it just me, or does it seem that hatchbacks are becoming more and more popular?

Even though they do have the same 1ZZ engine, you need to take into consideration that the EGR system, ignition, or fuel maps may be slightly different. Also to look at would also be the actual ECU harness from both cars, and if they look to be "plug and play" then even better for you. If not, then you got a lot of splicing on your hands.
im not sure about toyota ecus but i know u can normally find ecus for other cars cheap on ebay, like $20, just luke around for one on ebay, if it doesnt work the worst it will do is fry the $20 ecu u just bought and amaybe a few sensors if all hell breaks loose, just go for it
yeah...im not sure about toyota...i know all honda ecu's are pretty much the same. or at least harness wise....im not splicein shit...if its not plug and play i wont do it at all. as far as the difference in the engine sensors there isnt any. everything is same except for the intake and exhaust. im looking to gain the agressive fuel map and timing. i can get the ecu for free so that makes the price right. where is some of those dealer mechanics when you need them someone that has the inside track on this stuff

Its plug and play, Toyota wouldn't design 2 harnesses and ecu's for the same motor/tranny setup. I'm not sure if you'll find any gains though, the Celi ECU is tuned pretty tame. An AFR or SAFC would be able to help you out with more agressive maps.
Deep are you saying that the Celica GT 5-speed is the same as the one in the Corolla? I would think the Celi would have slightly more aggressive gearing...No?
yes the celica fuel map is quite different. the redline on the celica is 6400 and the hp peaks at 6000 instead of 58. well assuming its plug and play...ill be doing the swap when i get home from deployment...ive all ready got the parts lined up to be there when i get back.

I read it all and the deal is it would only work if you used an Celica GT wiring harness as well, which would take hours of splicing. This is a good thread however becasue it has full pin-out diagrams for 2000+ Celica GT and Corolla ECUs for all Trannys.
You are good to go using the Celica GT Throttle Body and intake manny though, there is a guy there who is running that just fine. Plus you can bore outthe Celi T/B and port-match the intake manny for a bit more gains...

I hate being right.
Sorry about that man.... anything is possible, but knowing what is needed is absolutely essential though. If you are getting the ECU for free, then fuck it, why not give it a shot and see if it plugs in, if not, decide how much effort you wanna put into doing what it takes to make it work if thats what you wanna do.
^^^Yeah but it Won't plug-in. The only way it will plug in is if you plug the Celica GT ECU into a 2000+ Corolla with a 4-speed auto. The car will run like this and have a higher redline and go a bit faster but then reverse won't work silverstreakin has a 5-speed. For the manual tranny Corolla it is impossible becasue there is a different number of plugs...Three or four peole with different kinds of Rollas have tried this and posted on that thread about it....
If you still want to try I'd advise you to study the pin-out diagrams and get a Celi wiring harness and wiring diagram and good fucking luck
