Tranny Cooler DIY

For those that have auto trannys...this is a worthwhile and easy mod to do.

I found this over at SC3 posted by Boostedtoy;

Damn, thats looks cool, how much does it cost to get one, is there a specific model that should be used for the gen 3 auto tranny? My car is getting the tranny rebuilt as we speak, thats a $1,100usd investment, might as well make sure she will be running cool in the future! Any possible ways of keeping my engine cooler is a good thing when you live in 110+ Degree F heat! Man, I read the entire thing, so it just circulates the ATF though there and the air that goes though and hits it helps to cool it? Or what? I am kinda confused...

They're basically universal auxilary coolers that provide additional cooling and can be added to any car. The one mentioned above is a "fin and tube" type. I'd suggest you get a "stacked plate" design like the one B&M makes. They're much more durable and don't reduce the fluid pressure.

They're dirt cheap and well worth it. Here's a link http://www.optauto.com/webstore/prod...1470&last=1470

Since your tranny is being rebuilt, now would be a perfect time to add a cooler.

Here's some past discussions about ATF coolers;

So you have had yours "AFTER" your radiator for about 3 months, did you notice any differance? Cool, I think I am going to do this for sure... might as well!

Which one should I go with:

http://www.optauto.com/webstore/prod...=yes&dept=1470

OR:

http://www.optauto.com/webstore/prod...=yes&dept=1470

Man, I wanna just get one and hand it to them and let them install it, just so I know I will have no conflictions with their one-year warranty, but I have no idea where I can get one around here!!!

Well yep, thanks for the good idea and any help is appercieated!

Thanks again, talk at you later!

boxer or briefs. It's a personal choice. I went AFTER the rad because that what the manf. suggested. However, Oldman's theory is valid too.

Neither. The first one is too small and the second one is too thick.

Try and find part #70268 SuperCooler 19,000 GVW 11"x7-1/2"x3/4". It's is the best fitting one out of all the sizes. I've got this size and so did Camry2000

Edit: Here ya go. Found a place that sells it

Here's B&M's site

I was going to suggest that you check out Summit Racing, but Phi beat me to it.

Anyways Summit Racing kicks ass. They got good customer service and I get my stuff in a day or two.

what would you guys use as an alterante mounting point? Just wondering because if there is going to be a fmic (which i hope to hahve for next spring) then that location wouldn't be great. Do you htink by a wheel well the cooler would get enough air?

FMIC a problem? You can mount the coolers like the way I did it:
