Taking out motor. Have question about engine wiring harness

The salvage yard that sold me the used engine cut up the engines wiring harness when they removed the engine. I don't understand why they just didn't cut the harness at the firewall.

I figure that I can either
1. remove the blown engines(in car) intake plenum
2. move the factory wiring aside
3. remove engine
4. install used engine minus its intake plenum
5. reinstall factory wiring and factory plenum on the used engine

or

1. cut factory engine harness at firewall
2. remove blown engine
3. install used engine.
4. reconnect wires cut at the salvage yard
5. solder and reconnect wires at the firewall

What engine is this that your swaping?

I would go with remove all connections from old motor... label each one... set all wires aside. After you swap in the new one, go connection by connection, removing what they left on, and using what comes out of the harness at the firewall.

I wouldnt cut and paste your old and new harness, could be more problems then you want.

Easiest way is to disconnect the wiring harness from the ECU, pull it through the firewall, and drape it over the engine.

Yank the engine out then remove the wiring harness. Lot easier to unplug everything when the engine it out.

Install wiring harness on new engine.
