Two general OBD II questions
First, isn't the interface supposed to be the same for every car equipped with an OBD II jack? The reason I ask is yesterday a friend and I attempted and failed to use an OBDII->Serial adapter on a second gen Talon, though it works fine on his Audi TT. We were using the apprpriate software on the Talon (dsmlink) and it works fine with the guy's old OBDII adapter. We DID notice that the pins are different between the audi one and the one we know works with the talon. Was wondering if OBD is just a spec for the plug and mfgrs just use whatever pins they feel like or what.
Second, is there OBDII software specific to Toyota/Camrys that is available to the general public, and runs on standard PCs or laptops? All I've found in my quick search online is either generic OBDII software or stuff that's specific but runs on some kind of wacky Official Piece Of Mechanic Hardware.
I apologize if I'm mixing terms here. My understanding is OBDII refers to the little modular plug, like you find in under the steering column.
