Many people may be interested in this. If you are fed up with your haynes manual because it has very broad information or you really need some good technical info, call up and get a toyota factory service manual. If you are worried that they are expensive, dont be. You can get all three for around 85 bucks i think. If anyone calls to get them, list the prices on this thread too.
They have 3 volumes for each car:
1- Engine
2- Chassis
3- Detailed electrical schematics
The books are extremely detailed. I have 1 and 3 for my car and let me tell you they rock. I could fix any electrical problem i would ever have with book 3, and im doing an engine rebuild right now with book 1. I wish i got volume 2 also, but i didnt think i needed it at the time.
Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know the number to call to get these books if anyone wants them.
I ordered today, for 1995 Camry, they were:
Vol 1 $66.95 engine
Vol 2 $73.95 body & chassis
Vol 3 $64.95 electrical incl.detailed schematics
shipping $8 regardless.
I only ordered body & chassis to handle suspension, brakes, door seals, etc. I hope it handles motor mounts & lots of torque specs. I think I will get a Haynes to help with basic engine stuff.

wow, those prices are higher than the ones i got when i ordered. maybe it was cause i ordered the 92 manuals... hmmmmmmmm... im pretty sure engine mounts are covered in book one.
and although I didn't order it, here's the scoop on 3:
$63.95 electrical (presumably schematics)
The first two, with tax and shipping came to $228.38, and arrived in the mail within a week.
When/if you order, you have 60 days to return them for refund.
I'm not planning any wild modifications (yet) and until I get more comfortable doing work on my car, I don't need the extra detail. Based on what you guys are saying for the 1992 and 1995 models, perhaps by the time I want to do something requiring the factory manuals, they'll be cheaper (still not holding my breath on that one).
For CD manuals, check ebay. I believe searching for "camry manual" should do the trick. There are a lot of auctions for about the same product, I think starting bid is $15. Not sure of the quality of those...
One might think that one only *needs* 2, but the catch is that there are a number of acronyms and other specific jargon in 2 that's translated in 1. Volume 1 has organized tables of torque specifications and spacings and tolerances that's maybe 1/2" thick, it's very redundant because that's also in 2, in the individual instructions.
The bulk of 1 is in the advanced troubleshooting (diagnostics), stuff that the casual car guy or hobbyist may not need (at least so long as there are online forums!).
The set even tells you to make sure the thing is clean before returning it to the customer(!)
On another (geekier) note, I think the Force is stong with this one. From page EM-50:
"Different the bushings are used for the intake and exhaust." Mmmm!
i also have one of those cd manual thingys for the mr2 and celica... its fairly good for general stuff i guess, but if you are doing something major, you really should just get the factory manuals, dont mess around and waste your money on manuals that are incomplete

hehe that's why i only drive toyotas...they are yoda approved
seriously though, is this the phone number for Toyota Publications?
if you ask for prices from toyota publications its something like $95 for vol 1 and $125 for vol 2 for a 1999 Camry...the newer models are higher priced.i would like the manuals for my camry, just can't get a decent deal on them yet
i have the toyota factory service manuals for my '89 MR2 and they are invaluable for tune-up info torque specs etc.
later,
Keri
