i4/v6 tranny compatibility

I just read in a Celica forum that if you have a 5s-fe and want to turbo charge it, it was suggested to swap out the manual tranny for the one used in the v6 Camry. If this is correct, then a v6 Camry auto tranny should fit a 5s-fe as well.

Can anyone confirm this? I am looking at doing some major tranny mods (valve body pressure increase and torque converter mods) and would rather swap transmissions if one from the v6 would fit.

Thanks,
Steve

The v6 Camry trans fits onto the 5s/3s blocks might need to make some new holes on the bellhousing since not all the holes are the same. The i also think you might need the v6 hubs since the imput shafts are not the same. Then you use a 5sfe flywheel and a 1mzfe clutch should line up not exactly sure about the size of the clutch but surface area on the flywheel should be enough.BTW get back to me on AIM.

Double check to make sure the input shaft of the V6 auto tranny fits into the I4 torque convertor, or if the V6 torque converter meshes properly with the 5SFE flexplate... I KNOW for a fact that the V6 and I4 flexplate are not interchangable because of different bolt patterns. The bellhousings will bolt up, I think at least 5/7 should go in... some may not - so you may have to tap the block... if you are super anal about it.

Why keep messing with auto trannys and do a manual swap?

I would do a manual swap in a heartbeat...except for one issue: The wife! She doesn't drive standard (and won't learn). Since this is also a shared car, I'd have to put up with all sorts of grief!

My other car (1988 Fiero) is a standard...I love driving that!

So it looks like if the auto tranny is to stay, I should look at Level Ten for valve body and torque converter mods.

The solution is simple!

Ditch the wife!
