I was just wondering how much time and money it would take to rebuild my redtop (myself or at shop). I have 3 of my ten G's left and im kind of getting sick and tired of my friens saying how slow and shit my car is. rebuild will be followed by intake and exaust in time.
ok then if i dont need a rebuild what would be a good *cough*Turbo*cough* to get and how much? Also how long will the engine last if i did put a turbo on, the thing deos have 192km and i run the shit out of it.
I was being a jackass Norm, if the motor isn't able to hold its compression then there's no point in going F.I. How much power were you looking for though? A GZE swap might not be out of the question if you've got a $3000 budget, or even a 20V Silvertop. Either of them will give you a nice 145-165HP, with the GZE able to handle more boost with a pulley upgrade.

Pretty much, when you do it, you'll get 4 numbers for the compression test, post those up and sombody will tell you if they're within spec or way off. The leakdown test is a more comprehensive version of that test that helps diagnose problems more easily.

Oh man its complicated. The basics are as follows
84 to 89 GTS's = Bluetop = Bigport = TVIS with 112hp
90 and 91 GTS's = Redtop = Smallport = no TVIS with 130hp
Thats what we got on N/A
The Silvertop and Blacktop are variations of the 4AGE but were very updated and came with VVT, 20 valves (as opposed to 16) and individual throttle bodies. These two motors came in the JDM Corollas.
There are other differences such as 3 rib vs 7 rib blocks and the 4AGZE wich was the supercharged variant but anything else is just confusing.
