Unhappy Blow by?

well i got my project running, went bombing aroudn the block a bit with it

i think the battery's dead since even after about 20 minutes of idling it can't start by itself, but the dash lights up

however, there's a lot of gas coming out of the oil cap when i take it off while its running

i can't remember what it means, bad rings? i remember that its not good though!!!

also i got a crack in the timing cover, i'm pretty sure i can JB weld that shut though

ANY THOUGHTS?

Blowby is usually related to bad rings, but oil vapor could also be the result of worn valve guides or valve seals. Thats an OHV motor right?

Check the easiest and most obvious ones first. Check yer PCV system starting with the valve. Check em if theyre oriented correctly or just replace em, theyre cheap.
