So hard to not floor it...

Driving like a granny during this break-in period makes me realize that I typically must drive like a real asshole I so want to get on the throttle, yet know I mustn't.

Anyway, I get mixed mileages from people on how long I should treat my new block etc. gentle. Some say 500mi., some 1000mi.

Basically I have an entirely new bottom end, new valves/seals, oil pump, water pump, and I had a new clutch put in (new one is like butter... so nice). What's the consensus on how long I should be treating her gently?

Oh, and "gently" being defined as not revving over 4G, shifting low, vary rpms on the highway. And not driving like an ass.

^ I was gonna post that too.

I'm not sure if I'd have the balls to do that. However, based on Mistamatrix (and others) trip to the Cambridge plant, they said they randomly pick a car and tear it up

I'd say drive it "normally" (not asshole style). I wouldn't necessarily baby excessively though.

Damnit, I've got 45 miles on it at this point. Missed the window he's talking about.

I've broken in a few engines more or less the way "Motoman" does it. No bad results, but I also haven't been able to compare them to identical engines broken in the "normal" way. I was doing that before I found that site though, because I discovered most big team race engines are broken in on the dyno and are not done so gently.
I just wish that the Mototune site wasn't so, um, shall we say, sensationalistic? Not to mention that he seems to think he is the first one or maybe the only one to use many of his ideas which is not the case. He does put out a lot of good info though, and encourages people to think for themselves and not be roped in like sheep. Good site overall. I haven't found anything I can call bullshit on.
