3vz auto timing advance?

would it be worth it?

i'm not talking about drag racing here (where you'd do a brake stand launch

but would it make the car retarded to drive around town?

does it change engine response?

I think that's cuz there is nothing to make the 3VZ more powerful than a wind up rubberband. My 4Runner barely gets out of it's own way. I'm waiting for the infamous head gasket failure.

headgaskets after 250 000 wouldn't bother me, that's a good stretch already

3vz pulls the camry pretty good, but i'd imagine that the 4 runner is a couple hundread pounds more, at least

only thing really slowing me down is the slushbox

We just turned 200K miles on the Runner, so I guess that's good enough for me too. There are some people on yotatech.com that have done some mods to get more poop outa the 3VZ, you could go there and do a search. Intake mods, headers, some tuning stuff, etc. I dunno about timing on that one. I didn't even know the 3VZ came in the Camry. BTW, if you read about the "deck mod" that's basically a hole in the intake box to allow extra air to enter just in front of the filter. They put a "deck plate" in the hole from a boat so they can close the hole for water crossings. Took me a while to figure that out.

Go to www.yotatech.com and look under 4Runners, trucks, etc. and do a search for your 3vz mods or 3vz upgrades and so on. I didn't pay much attention cuz it's my wifes car and she is happy with the engine as it is. It's a VERY busy board so you might have to dig through a lot of stuff to find what you are looking for. Hey, check out the 5vz swap. That would be a good one

mmmmm supercharged 3.4L

that would be a bit harder for us sedan guys, since our engines are transverse. I didn't read all that much, but if it just bolted onto his old tranny, then it *might* be able to bolt onto ours
