DO NOT FORCE IT!!!!!! Unbolt the torque converter from the engine, remove the engine. The torque converter MUST go onto the tranny first. It has several splines that need to line up. You have to spin it and push it until it seats all the way in, it will drop in further 2 or 3 times before it's in all the way. The last one is the pump. If you do not have it set in far enough you will cook it and your tranny when you start your engine. If you have put it on right, you should have a 1/2 in gap or so between the torque converter and the flex plate with the bell housing bolted up tight to the engine. You can then slide the torque converter over to the flex plate and bolt it up. If the torque converter hits the flex plate before the bell housing hits the block, you don't have the converter on correctly.
