Need help lining up engine to tranny bell housing

I lowered my rebuilt 95 4cyl camry engine into the engine bay and lined up my flywheel/flex plate and torque converter bolt holes. I installed three flex plates to converter bolts to keep things lined up until I bolt up the engine to the bell housing.

Are there any tricks that I can use to get the engine close enough to the bellhousing, so I can start bolting the two up. Only about 1.5 inches seperates the engine to tranny bolt holes. I am having a bear of a time trying to get the two to come together.

big ass clamps? a couple of strong buddies? pry bars?

you got the right idea with the bolts though screwdrivers work good to pry the casing into the right position

maybe use a jack and a peice of 2x4 to move the tranny around a bit

Thats what I'm thinking, maybe have one person lie under the tranny and try pushing it up while another pushes the motor back towards it?

I will try getting some extra muscle/people to help. I called two "friends" five hours ago. They just showed up now that I called it a day. I thought I would have this dang car started today. I am almost there. Something always happens when you work on cars! My hands are frozen from being outside, I will work on it Monday.

DO NOT FORCE IT!!!!!! Unbolt the torque converter from the engine, remove the engine. The torque converter MUST go onto the tranny first. It has several splines that need to line up. You have to spin it and push it until it seats all the way in, it will drop in further 2 or 3 times before it's in all the way. The last one is the pump. If you do not have it set in far enough you will cook it and your tranny when you start your engine. If you have put it on right, you should have a 1/2 in gap or so between the torque converter and the flex plate with the bell housing bolted up tight to the engine. You can then slide the torque converter over to the flex plate and bolt it up. If the torque converter hits the flex plate before the bell housing hits the block, you don't have the converter on correctly.
