Please explain the different engines to a newbie.

Would someone be so kind as to give a newbie (ME!) a rundown on the basic Toyota engine types and their pros, cons, and performance potential?

I have a '92 Camry with the iron block 3VZ FE V6, and it's a nice motor, but I have no idea of how it stacks up against the various other motors, and which ones are found in Camrys, or other Toyotas, and which ones MIGHT be made to fit in a Camry, and so on and so forth.

Any light you could shed on this subject would be appreciated.

As for swapping engines into your Camry..the most popular is the 3S-GTE (swegyptian). Others have elected to go custom turbo (Tony the Tiger), hybrid 5s-gte (Wraith)...only your imagination and thickness of your wallet limit you.
