A buddy and I are starting in on building some OBDII units similar to those found on scantool.net, but with a slightly tweaked design. We're just in the planning stages right now, but I wanted to throw this out here to see if anyone would be interested in an ISO interface cable that incorporates the elm323 electronics into the plug (so you don't need an interface box).
Scantool's is nice, but you've got this ginormous box... we'd like to make it a little smaller. There's nothing solid on the price, depends on where we can find the right parts. Most likely it's just going to be parts + s/h as your cost.. with maybe a few bucks extra just to make us keep wanting to make these things

Kind of a support the community sort of thing.
The deal with the elm chip is it transforms the ISO codes into ASCII and vice versa, so you basically just need a program for your pc/laptop that can understand characters (there are several out there). You could even use hyperterminal if you were so inclined.
Anyway, would anyone be interested in something like this? This is probably about a month out or so.
