SC on a 2002 Celica GT...

Aight, I'm a Honda guy, so bear with me on my lack of knowledge here as I'm sure I have no clue what I'm talking about. My girlfriend has an '02 Celica GT. She's getting into cars as a result of me doing my motor swap and turbo, and decided she wants to make her car faster. I looked into the possibilty of swapping from her 1ZZ-FE to a 2ZZ-GE (GT to GT-S motor I believe). Then someone had recommeded a TRD SC instead. The amount of the 2ZZ-GE motor would be pricey, not to mention time consumed in doing the swap. The TRD SC is listed as not being offered for her 1ZZ-FE, even though it is the same motor as the Corolla and the Matrix. I searched a bit more and found out that the only reason the TRD SC isn't sold for the Celica's is that there is a hood clearance problem, and either the stock hood would need to be modified, or a replacement hood would be in order. I was curious if anyone had addressesd this problem yet, and if successful, what modifications were necessary to raise the hood enough to add the SC. My guess would be a series of spacers on the hinges, but I don't have specs, nor one to look at to see if that would work or not. Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

SC on 2002 Celica GT...

I'm assuming the lack of responses means that no one has accomplished the feat of SCing the 02 (or similar body styled) Celica GT. I heard from a friend that there is a guy (in Orlando) that shows up occasionally to the Saturday night import street races that has an SCed Celica. If anyone knows him, or is a Toyota Tech that might know specifics on the hood clearance problem, please respond. Thanks again.

Unless of course it's an old celi with the 3S-FE/GE/GTE engine of some sort, and their willing to give us parts

Good luck on finding the SC dude!

Sc on 2002 Celica GT...

I had a similar post on the Celica forum, but the extent of knowledge from everyone that posted was about the same as what I wrote in here. Everyone knew about the hood clearance problem, but no one knows actually the extent of work involved in correcting it. That's why I tried posting in here. Thanks for replying though. I'm going to find it really funny if I'm the first to do this SC on a Celica (girlfriend's car) and post the corrections involved in modifying the hood though; for the most part because I drive a Honda Accord with a turbo J-spec motor under the hood. Toyota is greek to me.

Why don't you just cut an intake hole in hood. Use a nice direct ram intake.

Like the drag racing Celica on the cover of Import Racer! back in July...

Custom Hood...

I dunno if Nicole wants me cutting holes in the hood of her new car... Although Iceman does make a ram air intake that replaces the passenger side headlight for Hondas... I wonder if they make one for the Celica's. I'll look into the Iceman one, but if you know of a company that makes a ram air intake for her car, that would be awesome.
