Canada 4A-GE engine swap into a Datsun B210

Our team has swapped a 4A-GE into a 1974 Datsun B210 racecar. After making custom mounts, rad, headers, etc, etc, etc we have the engine/drivetrain successfully working in the car

BUT....

We've taken the car out to a test day at the track (Mosport) and the car will only rev to 7000 and the timing seems to drop back to < 5 degrees (from 10 degree at idle) when we rev up to to the limit (rather then advance) -- further the engine will not go above 7K rpm. The engine pulls like a sick puppy (not what anyone expected) and we suspect the engine is stuck in "failsafe" mode and looking around here we discovered that we may need to install a speedometer into the ECU for it to work properly.

We have the "Silvertop" 1993 20v engine with the ecu and don't have ANY clue as to what make/model/cluster instrumentation package we should be plugging into the ECU to make this work. Any suggestions or comments would be VERY welcome at this point about this or anything else that might be causing the engine to remain in Failsafe mode

Thank You

James Kelley

P.S. Would anyone be interested in picture of this project? I will upload some (when the car is finished) if there is an interest.

P.P.S. This is our first time working with Toyota engines and drivetrain so please accept out apologies if we are missing something that is "obvious" to the Toyota regulars.

I don't know much about 4-AG engine, let that alone the 20V. But I know some people who can give you some answers. Try to contact those folks: http://www.hasselgren.com/ (they work very closely with the 4-AG engine, as they build it for Formula Atlantic). Give 'em a call and see what's up.
Please upload the pics if you can, I'd like to see the car....
