Wheel width question.

I'm currently rebuilding my engine, and I'm hoping to take my truck to the track sometime early next year.
The engine will make about 300 hp to the wheel, and I did some calculation about grip and what not. I need at least some 245/45/17 tires (I'll be running Nitto NT-01).
The question I have is this:
Is it better to use 8.5 width wheel or step up to a full 9.0 width.
I've seen many people using both (8.5 with 245, as well as 9.0 with 245).
I'd like to hear your opinion in regard; pro's and con's?
Thanks in advance.
