The shop thinks I need a valve adjustment. I don't want to get ripped off. Thoughts?
I will never perform another rebuild/engine drop!!!There is always something thats goes wrong when you work on cars. So I installed this 2.2l rebuilt engine in this camry I picked up for next to nothing. Took my time and did the job right! Go to start it and...........it turns over but won't fire at all. I take it to the shop that rebuilt the engine and they say fuel and other systems are fine, but the cam timing was off- I believe them. They fixed that. Now they are telling me that the car will fire, but it idles very rough. They say that the valve lash is way off and that some valves are stuck open. I checked the lash when I put in the cams and there was a gap per the factory specs. How can there be no gap now? They say that everything changes each time the cams are reinstalled. The cam is the same and the lifters are the same as before. They say that it will be 100$ + the cost of new shims for the valve adjustment on top of the $400 that they are charging to diagnose and work on the cars problem. Fortunately, I have the shims from another 2.2l head that is sitting around.
Thoughts?
