Hi: I am thinking of buying a strut tower brace for our 96 Corolla. The brand is made by JDM. Has anyone heard of this brand and if so whats your opinion on them. It is made out of T6061 aircraft billet aluminum. Thanks for your help ,Dan.

JDM is Japan Domestic Market... it's not a brand, but a description. JDM is the Japanese version of the stuff we have here... many people call things JDM just to lure in junkies who want to give their car the Japanese look. Sounds like you're buying off of eBay.

HI: Yes its ebay . will this help our cornering or is this nothing but show? We have the base model Corolla with the 3 speed trans, & a/c, ps&pb. I have installed CXR ceramic brake pads on the frount and put on a set of Pirelli P400 ties on it. I just want to inprove the cornering of it because it did'nt come with a frount stabelizer bar. Anything else you could share with me would be great. Thanks and Happy Holidays, Dan.

dont buy one made of aluminum... aluminum's too soft to serve that purpose, i dont get why they would do that...
steel or something bro.

I'm probably wrong, but isn't aluminum stiffer than steel? I mean aluminum cracks while steel just bends... Feel free to correct me though, as I'm far from an expert.
naw, aluminum is the one that bends easier, its just a far far softer metal than steel, however way lighter...I don't remember myself if steel cracks or bends, i think it was hardened steel like crowbars snap, and normal steel would bend, but for sure steel is the harder stuff...

I know in the world of mountain biking that aluminum frames are much stiffer, but they crack on impact instead of bending. Steel frames like 6061 just bend. Maybe they're using different grades of metal or something?
I think if the aluminum is extruded, meaning, drawn out of its liquid state when made, it is much stronger than steel of the same size and diameter. Under pure stress the extruded aluminum works better than steel and is much lighter, but, on impac it almost shaters like frozen plastic. So I think the aluminum strut braces will work for what they are designed to do, just do get hit . Anyway ,thats my 2 cents. Dan.
