sitting in accounting class today brought some ideas to mind
keep in mind this will be a quick and dirty done in 48 hrs, and umm, yah, CHEAP way to turbo my 4age. estimating 6psi or 30hp max.
repair the oil leak, or new 4age
1 turbo probably used
1 manifold, those are probably gonna be the hardest things to source, and that is still pretty easy stuff.
4 celica injectors
1 supra fuel pump
1 rising rate fuel pressure reg
1 used talon bov
1 used talon or mk1 mr2 stock intercooler
hmm am i missing anything? i can't remember, 3 hrs of Managerial Accounting has givin me a brain melt down..
I am a little more motivated to put this project into action because:
1. a gze install would probably be alot more than $2000
2. a water cooled turbo can be spliced off the lines that run coolant to my throttle body, so no tapping or anything there.
3. oil can be spliced off the out-hose from my oil cooler
4. i need a new rad anyway, so i would just find a slightly shorter one, maybe thicker core, so i can run ic piping infront of the rad.
sounds pretty easy, and i think it would be definately driveable and just enough power to give me a chance against real sport compacts. how everything is coming out with over 170 hp nowadays..heheh
this will be mad dirty, but with an af meter to do a little in-the-garage tuning i am sure i could coax some streetable power and still be able to use the car everyday..

*cricket* *cricket* hehe j/k
how many km do you have on the engine, i would'nt mind seeing you go ahead with this project, seems logical enough. assuming you run a mild enough boost pressure and adequete intercooling (i was thinking maybe a stock S13 SR20DET intercooler or any other around the same size), it doesnt seem so far-fetched. It will be nice for you to end off your engine with a "bang" anyways, hehe, with your rev happy hardcore 4AG racing engine. As for the BOV, im not sure how the talon ones look like or how they're designed but you can use probably a cheap bosch BOV that a lot of european turbo cars have. I guess it comes down to availability if this is gonna be a budget turbo setup.
odds of me finding an intercooler from an sr20det are 0 considering we don't get sr20det's. i was thinking of frount mounting those cheapo talon or mk1 mr2 intercoolers, i have seen them go for as low as $40 canadian.. doesn't have to be pretty!
i am just excited cuz having that impeller will tone down the exhaust note considerably.
also.. a bov from a saab or talon are both acceptable, designed to blow internally, a punch of a hammer can give it that "psht" sound i want so much when i release the throttle...

My bad, I know a couple guys who had em, dont know where they got em, I assumed they were easily sourced.
Anyways, how much do your stock injectors flow compared to celica injectors? Your car has a return fuel line right, so you can grab a FPR from a local shop to finish off your fuel setup with the supra pump aswell.

The Saab's don't have bov's. They have a Bosch bypass/recirculation valve that dumps back into the intake before the turbo.

yup, its that valve than can be punched and voila, you now have a very nice, albiet a tad too loud bov
Punched? I hope your not talking about taking out the insides of the valve.
I've heard that the Bosch bypass/recirc valves stay open under vaccumm so your gonna have to find some way to keep it closed under vaccumm. Maybe you can hookup the nipple on it to the pipe in between the turbo and throttle body so it never sees vaccumm and stays closed.
I have one that I pulled off a Saab at a junkyard but, I haven't played with it or hooked it up since I have a Blitz BOV so I dunno if what I said above will work or not.

Blitz, nice... Is it the type with the little breather-like filter on it ? Those are kinda pricey, but good. I like Blitz and HKS BOVs personally, since they actually do their function properly, and the sound is a nice benefit.

I have the older one (Blitz Super Sound) with the big horn/megaphone on the front of it.
The one your talking about is the newer one (Blitz Dual Drive (DDBOV)) with the horn and filter (see pictures below).

The Blitz and HKS go for around $200USD. I got mine off of eBay for $138 (used, but in very good condition).
Yes the sound is a nice benefit.

How is your project coming along 88LE
I have almost everything I need. All the big major stuff (turbo, manifold) is out of the way though. I'll be buying the rest of the parts I need this week so hopefully i'll have it done in the next few weeks.
I don't have much time to work on anything since work takes up most of my time.
Can't wait to get it done and scare some HonDuh ricers with my turbo and bov.
