Need help with a 22R with Weber Carbs

I just purchased a Toyota powered sand rail. I think it has an early 22R with Weber 45 DCOE carb. It curretly doesn't have the vacuum lines attached to the distributer. Originally it looks like the vacuum advance and retard lines attached to the carburator. If anyone is running this set up, can they tell me how they attached the vacuum lines? Or how they are running it?

Is this a good carb set up for this engine? I haven't run it much to see how it does. It hesitates if you try to accelerate quickly, but that could be due to not having the vacuum advanced lines hooked up, or possibly old fuel.

To find out if it's a 22R, look at the block under the distributor. There's a machined boss on the block with the engine type stamped on it. As far as hooking up the vacuum advance, there are a couple of things to remember; 1: DCOE's won't make much vacuum, if any. 2: Your vacuum source needs to be consistent, so you would need to have a tube plumbed into each intake runner into a common larger tube, then run a vacuum line from that larger "vacuum manifold" to the distributor. You only need 1 hose on the distributor; the smaller one is for a stock engine and retards the timing when the engine is cold.

Edit: You'd be wise to pick up a Weber tuning book BEFORE tinkering with the carbs, otherwise you'll get into a hopeless mess trying to tune them.
