Do I NEED a new ECU for auto to manual conv.?

Okay, the hop called me todat and asked "what about an ECU"?

I have asked people about this before and they said it was not necessary but I just wanted to check and make sure so if anyone know's for sure please let me know. The ECU does not control a manual tranny right so I don't need one? Will I run into any problems without one? Ratko, I know you did this swap so you should know. Tony, 88le, Harmer, anyone?

Oky, I was doing a little bit of research and I can use the manual ECU but I also need the manual wiring harness because of the difference in wiring? Is this true? If so, I am going to call a junkyard tomorrow and see how much those parts run. I want this swap to feel/look as factory as possible and I want it to be a simple as possible for the shop that is doing it.

if you want it as factory as possible, get the manual ECU and the main engine harness for the manual ECU also.

otherwise if you just want it to work... no ECU necessary.

d@mn engine harness is 100 dollars. ECU is only 25 though. I might just get the ECU amd let the shop worry about the wiring.
