Manual tranny swap and TB's

OK, one quick question: When swapping from an auto to a manual setup, do you have to do anything with the throttle body...like swapping it?

Toyota indicates the TB's are different, but I cannot find a MTM throttle body (with federal emissions) anywhere for my 96 4-cyl. But I can find a bunch for a 96 ATM including federal emissions.

So if the TB for the ATM was used after swapping the tranny, then that means I can use the TB for a 96 ATM with federal emissions.

Just need confirmation.

Thanks,
Steve

OK, that's what I thought. The only connection between the two is the kick-down cable from the throttle to the tranny. When I swap the manual in, I will remove that cable anyway.

They may be slightly different configuration-wise in MT and AT engine bays, but i think the bottom line is that it doesnt affect your swap, per se.

The reason I am going thru all of this is because I am removing all of my California emissions crap and swapping over to Federal. To do this, I need a Federal emissions TB. So I figured I should look for a TB that also is for MT. Finding a TB for a MTM with Federal emissions for a 4-cyl is impossible. I found 2 in the coutry.

Then I thought about how if I swapped my current setup and left the emissions stuff alone, it would be the TB for a ATM. That's why I asked about swapping the TB when doing the tranny swap.

I know some people are probably saying, "Why does he want to swap the emissions crap?" It's me...I really, really don't like all the crap that goes along with California emissions. I want the engine bay to look neater. I don't expect any real performance gains.
