strongest tranny for 4age?????

What are some of the strongest tranny's that I could put behind a RWD 4age? Just assume I can make insane power and i could afford the trans.

What car do you have? ae86, mr2?

t50 came from the 85-87 toyota corolla.

Supra tranny, you could probably go with a W series tranny (W55)? I believe you'd have to change the bellhousing to fit the 4age motor.

How do you plan to get "insane" numbers from this motor? Only way would be to go FI.

Planning on RWD Starlet, iv'e got the motor but still looking for a car. The motor will be built for nitrous, drag race only. The head will need serious work ie. welding the floor of the exhaust port so the roof can be raised. Still not sure of the strength of the botom end. Thanks for your replies.

In the US.....probably the E-150. It was the tranny used in the supercharged MR2. It should bolt right up to the 4A-GE, but it will probably need some work since it was designed for the MR drivetrain.

There was also a *SIX* speed used in the AE111. It drove the 20v 4A-GE "black top" which was rated at 170hp. However, both it and the 20v, was never released in the US. The AE111 was also an FF car.

Supra tranny is for JZ or M blocks. Probably won't fit without a bell housing adaptor.

The T series is a good tranny and is often recommended for RWD 4A-GE conversions. Probably not as strong as the E-150 though.

C series will fit with work. It was used in the NA MR2. However, the C-50 had some issues with gears popping out. The C-52 kinda rectified this. MR2 owners I talked to say they wouldn't use it on an 4A-GE with a blower.

K series as found behind the 3A will fit, but it is very weak. It's recommended for a mild Starlet, but not if you're going to slam it.

Here's some good info for you:

4 rib (1st gen) or 7 rib (2nd gen)?

If it's the 1st gen, I wouldn't push it too hard. Count the ribs on the block.

Also, you're probably looking at forged internals. The Formula Atlanta Engine that TRD built for racing was so overengineered it's insane.

Toysport will sell you a complete Formula Atlantic 4A-GE for $12,500. Or, you can be less ridiculous and get a regular 16v with forged internals for $2,200.

W-series trannsmissions (MKII & MKIII Supras) are good for over 300 hp. You will need to get a new bellhousing. There are a few places that sell them. Dellow Automotive in Australia and a guy on Club4AG.com whose screen name is Toycoolrolla.

I have a W59 from a MKIII Supra in my AE86. I got my bellhousing from Toycoolrolla for about US$250 shipped.

Thanks gzus13, that sounds like what i'm looking for. I know I can make 300 hp on spray and I need something that can handle the stress from sticky drag slicks and a spool rearend.
