99 4Runner 5th gear whine

I have a 1999 4Runner with 39000 miles on it, 6 cylinder, 5 speed manual tranny. When in 5th gear and at any steady speed above 50 mph, I get an annoying whine. I have had it in and had the trans looked at. They replaced the syncros in first and fifth and replaced the main shaft That was about 10,000 miles ago. The whine was mush less after that, however it is getting louder.

This whine always occurs above 50 mph when at a steady speed, it is very high pitched. It is such a high pitch that I have had women friends say they hear it and men who say they cannot. (There is some myth that men don't hear high frequencies as well as women.) If you accellerate or decellerate a bit, it disappears until you resume a steady speed again. I think the dealer's shop is baffled. I am returning today to have it looked into again. It is under warranty until June. I want to get it taken care of before then. If it is just something that cannot be fixed and I have to live with, I am getting rid of it. This whine is unbearable to me.

Hmmm, a bit easier said than done. I was hoping for serious responses.

Well if you're still under warranty and its persistent you might be able to get them to put a whole new tranny in is all I'm saying. You might get some better responses in a little while, I'm no hardcore techie.
