Angry Professional Negligence

I own a Toyota LiteAce van with a 3CT engine, the car indicated the timing belt light after which I sent it the local Toyota owned service centre where they said that the timing belt needed replacing.

Instead of replacing the timing belt they decided to tighten the pulley now the car needs a complete engine rebuild.

Can anyone advice if this action was responsible for the damage to the engine?

Regards

If I recall, the C blocks are the diesels.

According to the info I have, the 1C-T in the Camry is non-interference, but they might have changed something on the 3C-TE that makes it interference (there's a 200cc difference). If they said "timing belt replace" on your recepit, they are liable. If they said "timing belt adjust" and you signed it, then things are more complicated.

I wish I could be more help, but turbo diesels aren't really popular in the US. All our Toyota Vans came with petrol powered Y blocks.
