1MZ-FE Cranshaft Pulley Removal

Can someone tell me if the crankshaft pulley bolt on my '95 V-6 Camry engine is right or left-handed thread. I can't tell from the pictures or text in my Toyota shop manual. Can't break the bolt with a 12" long 22mm box wrench.

its probably normal thread

try locking another large wrench onto it, or slip a pipe onto it

leverage is your friend, i'm not too surprised you can't undo it with a 12" wrench

NO! i would never use an impact on a crankshaft (at least not on my own car)

and besides your arms with leverage are much stronger than any impact

first off, old man, ur stupid! it will not hurt a crank pulley to take the bolt off w/ an impact. seondly, the bolt is regular thread and what u really need to take that off (besides an impact gun) is some rust penetrant, a breaker bar w/ a 22mm socket on it and sumthin to hold the pulley from movin. there is a tool made to hold the pulley from movin called a chain wrench and that works great.

its not the pulley i'm concerned about, its ratteling the bearings and crank seals

doing it by hand definetly won't hurt, and a chain or strap wrench or even jamming it with a little prybar, could probably stick another large wrench in there and work against that

Hello guys,

Just a quick question related to the removal of the crankshaft bolt. I saw this online http://www.etoolcart.com/browseprodu...er-Holder.html

Would this device work but I do not see how it could be held onto the crankshaft? Another thing is I'm thinking about getting a 300ft-lb Dewalt cordless impact wrench to take off the bolt, would that give enough torque to remove that bolt. Thanks!

generally impact wrenches do not work...

looks like that is an intuitive tool.. but it appears that that is only if you need to take off the flywheel/flexplate and you already have the harmonic balancer pulley off and those grooves slip on where the pulley came off.

read my post right above yours... thats how to do it.
