It's a bit more controlled than that. The parts are brought to a specific temperature at a specific rate of cooling, held there for a time, cycled back up to a higher temp, then back to cooler, then slowly brought back up to room temp. In some processes they are then heated, then brought back to ambient. The whole thing is controlled by a computer and takes a couple days.
