1mz rear wheel drive - what transmission?

We are in the early stages of building a tube frame car for next year's race season and are thinking of the 1MZ engine- mainly for reliability/hp as well as they are a dime a dozen. The question is has anyone seen who this can be done - we have not been anything on the web - thouhg a few people have put them in mr2s the mr2 is a east/west engine not a north south. Have had people say that you need this bellhousing and that gearbox but pics and part numbers are worth a thousand words. Thanks

bell housing isnt a problem.

3sgte were produced as a fwd and rwd using the same bell housing.

1mz and the 3s share the same bell housing.

so if you have an extra 1mz laying around go for it. i been thinking about doing this to my new supra for a little bit now. also the 1uz.

edit:
found the site with information on the 3s bell housing

is there any possibility of doing a mid engine setup instead of front engine rear wheel? that way you could just set up the engine and trans the way the MR2 is.

The E153 5-speed mated to the 3SGTE in the All Trac (AWD) Celica is a bolt on to the 1MZ-FE. But the engine in the Celica sits the same way as the Camry/MR2. If you wenr that route, and seated the engine the same way, can just cap off the FWD part and use the RWD part with the driveshaft.

This is JUST an idea, as no one I know have ever looked into it, but the 3VZ-FE and 1MZ blocks, you can interchange the Tranny's between the 3. NOW, would the 3VZ-E tanny from the Pickups work? Food for thought. I;m just going this off the top of my head as something to try. Sorry I can;t be of more help.

yes and t100 trans or R50 shares the 1mz /3s housing bolt pattern

here is real food for thought. people who've done 3S rwd conversions run into a oil pick up problem.(from what i've read and heard) because the engine sits on the subframe at like a 35 degree angle in its stock form. when you place the engine straight up and done the pick up gets unhappy./ineffective.

now the 1mz sits in a car in the same fashion. i would be concerned of the same issue.
also heard rumors with mr2 guys(fits in and still on a similar angle to the 3s) who swap it in for a track car have oil pressure fluctuations due to the non performance oriented pan and pick up.
