First of all, think about the cops that are going to be pulling you over! They can't even spell Wastgate, let alone bust you for something that may or may not be illegal. I'm not sure about the law, but I would just go ahead with it and take that chance!

I dunno if its illegal or not but, i'll tell you that you'll have a nasty exhaust leak sound coming from the wastegate if you do what you said.

External wastegates are normally plumbed back into the exhaust.

Maybe you meant to say blow off valve instead of wastegate?

no i meant waste gate which is commonly done by many turbo tuners alike. yes i know they are plumbed back into the exhaust for more streetable applications. However, i'm thinking off having it dump into the atmosphere...beside, i love that sound...

but its just that...i'm wondering if they would tag you for impropper exhaust if anything..

Okay no prob. Just as long as you know what it'll do if you dump it off into the atmosphere.

I'm not sure but, I think you'll be alright. The cops will probably think its just the blow off valve going off.

The wastegate on my turbocharged Civic is dumping into the atmosphere but, its gonna be a drag / roadrace car so I don't care.

Hell i'm not even gonna have an exhaust on it. Just a downpipe dumping out.

Kewl. I say go for it. If the cops give you sh*t about it you can always run a pipe from the discharge of the wastegate back into the turbo manifold or downpipe.
