Help my daily driver live!

Hey my name is Mike this is my first post and here it goes.
i have a 94 celica gt with the not so hot 2.2L, well as i found out the are what they call a non restricted engine? maybe im wrong but long story short engine wont start is it toast? and my next question is if it is toast what could i throw in there realalisticly engine wise? the 3sgte seems to be the pick of the bunch but i was wanting a v6 anyone out there done that or heard of it?
