Back-firing

This doesn't really even matter anymore since soon this engine is coming out of my car for a new engine.. BUT I've been having a terrible back-firing issue with my '89 corolla.. I do have quad carbs on it.. but it seems like no matter how lean I tune them I get back-firing.. usually in Park.. I get a lot of "after-burn" too.. if I am in Drive and I hold the brake down and get on the gas.. idle the car up to say 1100 or 1200rpm from say 800 or 900rpm idle.. the back-firing in will stop.. If I am in Park and I rev it up to say 1600rpm or better it'll stop as well..

No matter how lean I tune the carbs.. it still back-fires.. I pulled my one spark plug and it was white.. white as if it wasn't even getting spark..

So I'm just curious if this could be a bad distributor.. or maybe poor engine grounds? I'm not positive.. It just pops from the exhaust.. and I hate that sound so much. New engine setup is EFI... I love carbs but I've had enough of their silly fuck tuning issues.. I'd rather be with ITB's now.. the equivelant of carbs in a much superior and easy setup!!

But if it's a bad dizzy.. then I guess I can't blame the carbs.. idk.. I did spray the wires down with soapy water to check for arc'ing or anything.. and all was good. New cap and rotor and wires and plugs. 4AF engine.

a lot easier than carbs.. besides i ain't doing a true ITB setup.. I am using the carbs still.. except just using them to meter airflow.. no fuel input with them. Just having them feed right into the plenum.. I didn't like the tiny throttle plate on the 7AFE.. That plus I will be pumping water through these carbs then for water injection.

Well, I have tried adjusting the distributor.. That did nothing except make the car run worse.. I don't have the vacuum advance on the dizzy connected.. no way to do it because I don't have a ported vacuum to connect to.
