Knock Sensor Relocation For Perf. Pistons

I read something that said if you have performance pistons that you need to move the knock sensor because they make more noise than stock pistons. The knock sensor retards the timing thinking that the engine is pinging. Could this actually ruin my motor? They recommend moving the sensor to a lower boss on the block.
