acceleration problem

I have a 1985 celicasupra and when I first start to drive it when i start it up i have a problem. When i push the "pedal to the metal" it seems to jult while accelerating. I have gotten the injectors cleaned and i have replaced the fuel filter. I also took the entire intake house off (thinking there may have been a clog) and cleaned it out. I currently have oil leaks through a few of the seals (mostly the rear main seal), but i didn't think that would have any effect on that. Also, I was wondering if there are any common problems with the 5ME engine in the past or any someone has come across.

One problem is that you are putting the "pedal to the metal" before your car has gotten a chance to warm up .

Might be a broken engine/transmission mount.

How can you tell if the engien or whole car is jolting?
It happens with my Corolla a little bit, it kind of stutters when floored for a split second. I think it might be bad timing because it diesels too when I turn it off.

probably just flooding ur engine, if it doesnt do it while warm its just ur oil is pretty thick, its flooding, or just not gettin enough incoming air.

So do you let the car warm up or not man

Maybe your oil pressure takes a while to come up?

You guys
His car hesitates when he accelerates.
The engine is carborated.
I think the answer is for him to clean his carborater.
A good mod to help those engines is a ignition system (MSD).

Yay let's get em fuel a burn'n.

nahh the engine is EFI.... did any 85's come carburated?...... and it's possible i guess it could be the oil... i mean the pressure stays low because the rear main seal is leaking pretty bad(which i am replacing as soon as i get off for the summer from college)

My dad's old '83 was EFI so I'd inagine the '85 is too... this is the 5MGE? Not too familiar with old-school Supras... as far as loss in power is oncerned see if your rubber intake tube is cracked. Sounds dumb but this happened on my aunt's '86 Celica GT-S a while back and the thing lied flat on its face. Bucked and jolted a little too.

acceleration problem

if ur engine is carbd the prob would be being caused by ur air intake, as the airflow through the carb is small to start with it won't suck fuel through at first, causing ur loss of power, try a k&n high flow intake. If it's injected u should get ur fuel pump and lines serviced as in this age vehicle is likely, it could also be caused by dirt in the tank, while its idling the dirt would be sitting in the bottom of the tank then as fuel flow increases a lump of dirt ie a flake of rust/paint would get sucked over the intake pipe and restrict the flow of fuel, also try just replacing the air filter may help.
