I heard about this...I think theres a company somewhere that can reprogram it to your tastes. You tell them everything you want, then they'll write the program. THen you have to send in your ecu and they'll put the program on. Hope that helps a lil.

Essentially, pre OBD2 computers for toyota were not reprogrammable. So what has been done is to make a board that holds the original cpu and also some outboard ram with new instructions. The new board solders into the main ecu board where the old cpu was. Then it becomes programmable. Here is a link to where you can find these.

Hmm.... funny... I've always heard that Toyota ECU's are nor reprogrammable because Toyota doesn't use EPROM like most auto manufacturers and on the other side if you do get CPU on another board then there is the fact that the Toyota ECU programming source code is as secret as the recipe to Coke and Pepsi together... it's no available anywhere.

I know a bunch of Toyota high performance geeks who have been after the source code with no result and they have all had to go the EMS route.

I dunno how it works exactly, but it does allow tuneability. I just read about in a book titled "How to tune and modify engine management systems" where they were hopping up an MR2.
