Manual Tranny dipstick??

Ok...stupid question. My buddy just got an echo hatch 5-sp... and I don't see a tranny dipstick in the engine bay. Having only owned automatic cars, do manual cars have no tranny dipstick???

shut man! why does a donut come with a hole and then they turn around and charge you if you want a timbit (aka donut hole)?! It's just one of those questions only Plato can answer. Too bad he's dead.

They don't have dipsticks because the gear oil shit lasts forever. There are forums on this kind of stuff. Do some research. All your questions can be answered with a little reasearch.

You check the manual tranny fluid level by unscrewing this bolt on the bottom/side of the tranny and sticking your finger in there.

The fluid is supposed to come right up to the bottom edge of the whole while parked on a flat.

The reason manual transaxles don't have dipsticks is because gear oil is way to thick. Having a dipstick would be useless because it would take forever for the fluid to settle at the bottom to be checked after driving. Also, unlike ATF, gear oil's viscosity changes with temperature so the percise amount in the gearbox isn't as vital as in an auto, where the fluid is not just used as a lubricant but also to move solenoids and actuators, and govern the torque convertor.
