5SFE Valve Cover Removal

92 Camry i-4

I want to remove my valve cover to change my gasket and paint the cover. I know the bolts are where the spark plugs go in. After removing those, should the cover come off easily or are there other components that need to be removed?

The spark plug tube nuts are the only thing that holds it on, as far as I know.

Chances are the cover will be kind of stuck on even after the bolts are removed. Either use a piece of wood and a hammer or a rubber mallet to knock it loose.

gcs118's idea of tapping on the valve cover with a rubber mallet is the best way to remove the cover. I sometimes use a slotted screwdriver and CAREFULLY put it between the cylinder head and valve cover. Pry up a bit on the screwdriver in several places along the cylinder head and you should be able to just pop the cover right off with your hands.
I did this same thing about a year ago-paint the valve cover-and it looks great. When you're done, it will make a huge difference in the appereance of your engine.

You have to remove the spark plug wires to see them. They are large and each in the four spark plug holes.

its the black rings on the you see after the wires. Just use a large socket.

^^^ 30mm socket to be exact. don't forget to take out the rubber seals under the nuts, or the valve cover will not move. good luck.
