Cutting ONE coil isn't so bad, but keep in mind that, when you do have the money to buy springs, you'll have to for out for the labour once again. That's why it's good to do everything, including struts all at once. But hey, if you're going to junk the car in a year or two and only want something for looks, go ahead.

I had my springs chopped off until I relaized that I needed a real suspension.

The people that chop springs usually wanna go for looks and don't care about how the car performs.

If you cut your springs off you'll start having allot of problems, I'm starting to fix the damage that was done by the chopped springs! When you hit a bump or a puthole on a chopped spring, the reaction of the spring won't be good. The spring will puss your tire down but your tire won't bounce back again, and that's why you'll be ruining your tires, rims and whole suspension..

You'll be saving allot of money for sure, I remember chopping my four springs for $130 and when I bought my full struts/springs suspension I spent about a $1,000, but trust the damage you'll cause and the ride quality will make you regret not buying the actuall lowering suspension..

Cutting your springs will make it stiffer, so as long as the springs are not variable rate and you don't heat them while cutting (and you have adequate shocks/struts to handle the increased rates).. it should be fine

Well, I have decided to get a set of springs from the wreckers-cut them- and put them on. I will get back to you guys in a couple of weeks when I do it. Thanks for all the advice.

You're doing it for looks? What about the look on people's faces like mine laughing their ass off because they can clearly recognize your car has cut springs? Have fun wildly bouncing up and down like a rodeo bull down the street... You maybe fooling some of the high school kids poseurs, but not the true enthusiasts....

 Dude! Whats your problem? There seems to be mixed feelings about cutting springs. I have consulted quite a few techs about this. Of course getting a lowering kit is ideal, but if I am going to remove the spring, measure and cut 1/2 a coil on the front and a full coil on the back with good struts to go with it(this is a camry-which by the way has quite a few coils). All I will get is a lowered camry with a bit of a harsher ride. Sure the max vehicle load will be less, but guess what...I DONT CARE... im not towing anything!! Anyways, I'll try it with the springs i'm getting from the wreckers for free and i'll let you know what my experence was.

I hope you dont bounce under a bigrig or something before that.

Anyways, cutting springs is horribly bad, my friend had them on his escort, with the standard -3deg camber. Yeah, well we were blasting down the hiway at 140kph or so and hit a corner, F*ck, we almost lost control doing that, well we were wondering why it jittered like it didnt have any contact. So we took a look and turns out the springs up front had collapsed.
I guess we were lucky that day.

your car will only bounce if its under damped.. the same thing will happen if you buy the nicest, ritziest springs money can buy but use them with stock shocks..

as long as your struts/shocks are up to the task of handling the increased spring rate, it won't bounce
