Theres nothing wrong with cutting your springs, as long as youdon't trim too much off of it. it ain't rice rice, just don't chop them to like 2 coils left u know?

chopping springs will screw up spring rate and give a screwed up ride and mess up handling...also theres no compensation for the shorter ride height...making ur car more prone to bottoming out

thats why you get short strokes...a spring is a spring is a spring...chopping will only make it stiffer if anything. Its not that bad...the only concern is the spring slipping out of the perches...if you can find a way to level out the cut spring to sit on the perch flush, you should be okay.

I did even better. When I was in school and had no money but wanted rice, I heated them up and tucked the wheels. But of course, the ride was just garbage!

I have B&Gs now, and I have cut them only because you can with these ones. Dual rates with lowering coils and main coils for ride. I cut off a lowering coil (which does not affect ride).

If you do decide to do it, don't cut off more than one coil, and don't cut off partial coils.

No, actually it would change the characteristics...I mean it won't be as good as having race springs or proper lowering springs, but it shouldn't make the ride squishier or anything....like you said, ol' skool guys used to do it all the time be cause of the lack of performance springs available for a decent cost.

OK, OK!! So guys, I know I will get a sh**ty ride but if I only cut one coil(at the bottom of the coil) there is no way the spring will fly out. Even if I ramp the car there still will be enough tension to keep the springs in, right? I am only doing this for looks, not for racing. Another question is what is wrong with cutting only 1/2 a coil? And what does "rice rice" mean?
:???:

SAFTY man, I seriously don't suggest cutting your springs ESP. on your daily drive car. It not only screws up the drive, who knows what will be affected. Your suspension is the ONLY thing that links the car to the tires, which the tires are the ONLY thing with contact with the road.
Well a set of springs is around $500, if you don't have that to spare don't do anything to your car!
I don't mind seeing you in an accident but you would be also putting innocent people in danger.
If you want springs cheap shop around. try Racing Evolution that I posted earlier on an other thread

cutting the springs in half I wouldn't cut the springs either, Save the money and buy lowering springs. It is worth the ride difference.
