Refinishing rims

Has anyone ever refinished wheels on their own? I just switched rims with this dude and I think they may need to be refinished. I also have question that's pretty hard to explain:
The rims has a very slight bend on the inner side. The tire will hold air only for about two hours. I don't know exactly how long. The other night I filled it with air and the next day it was all gone. It looks like they tried to seal it will some black shit. It's all on the sidewall of the tire too. I hope they were trying to repair the tire and not the bend. The bend doesn't look that bad that it would lose air. My main concern is the refinishing though.
Thanks.

refinishing the wheels.. by that do you mean re-polishing the lip? or refinishing the whole rim?

If it's the lip ...I've never dont it personally but i know people that repolish their rims all the time BUT by a professional..
wouldn't want to risk messing up one of the rims..it can costly replacing them..

about the slight bend.. i'd take that to a rim shop and see if they can straighten it out.. it might be the bend leaking some air.. have a place check the tire for leaks in water to find the real problem.. see where the air comes out.. tire or rim bend

I can tell you how to do it but you got to tell me whether or not it the whole rim or the lip. Which part of the lip. I have to know whether it is painted or polished. Then i can give you a pretty good step by step.

It would be nice to do the whole rim but I'm just thinking about the lip now. The messed part about it is that there is writing around the lip. The lip is about 3/4 wide and it says "Advanti Racing Turismo" but there are scrapes here and there. Help out. Thanks.

OHh! Damn? The lip you got to do professionally. See can take a grinder to the face at low power and smooth it out but if you use the wrong stone and speed you might unbalance the rim. Hmmm. Ok. What you do go to home depot get the finest grinding stone they got and do it by hand. you gotta be gentle with it.

If the scratches are to deep don't do it.

How would refinishing the face of the lip unbalance the tire?

Well if you grind one side more than the other. Not the tire the rim. I guess i was thinking extreme. I mean I don't won't you to go frigin crazy wit a grinder. Do it by hand. It takes a lot more time but the result would be good. See if the rim is polished you gotta get a fine grinding stone so that the will be limited amount of scratches. But you still didn't tellme the make up of the rim. Is it painted or polished.

Sorry. They are "ADR Turismo". I went to merchant tire this weekend to get an alignment and I showed him the wheel. He said "no that's not gonna hold air". I think he was trying get business to their "rim people". All he kept saying was get them to fix it. they do a good job.
I tried to put air in the tire and it held until the next morning. I just found yesterday that the tire had a nice crack in the sidewall so I'm hoping that's the only reason it wouldn't hold air. The bend is not that bad.
