Corolla wont run

I've got a 1985 toyota corolla, 1.8l i4 carb, and its been sitting in a garage for about 2 years. Hasnt been started, run, nothing for 2 years. I went out to get it going today so I could sell it, and it wouldnt start. Obviously the battery was dead, so we got some jumper cables and hooked it to a 93 accord, and got it to the point that it would turn over. Sounded really fucked up for about the first hour, but after turning it untill the jumper cables smoked, and just flooring the gas, I was able to get it to the point that it sounded like my 88 pickup with a 22re. I actually got it to start, and it quickly died, got it to start again and it ran for a second untill I let off the gas, then couldnt get it started. I went to auto zone and got some ether, took off the air filter, and sprayed it down in the opening in the middle, got in, turned the key, and it started up and worked perfectly for about a second before dieing out. Tried a few different things, including flooring the gas and pumping the gas before and after ether, but still wouldnt run for more than about 2 seconds. Anyone have any ideas on whats wrong, and how to fix it?

clean out and tune your carb then do the timing. check the fuel line and the pump. check if any wiring got cut. if still doesn't start, grab a litre of gas pour it all over the car. light it up and put it out of it's misery!
