Talking about boost

When everyone is talking about boost via a super/turbo charger everyone always says Xpsi when really i can blow 7psi out of my mouth...its the volume that matters isnt it? So shouldnt we rate them in Xpsi @ Xm^3

Correct me if i am wrong.

Ok yeh i guess it could get confusing but it is sometimes decieving when someone is bragging about their car saying that he is running 22psi when that could be thru a straw

By measuring boost IN the manifold, there is a known quantity there. If you are running 20psi on one 5s-fe and 15psi on another of the same motor, you are comparing apples to apples (forget about porting for a second).

Talking about volume is important when talking about getting the right size turbo for the job, but once its on the motor, a turbo will flow what it flows...

Of course, 15psi at 3krpm is different than 15ps at 8krpm.... but so is 100ft-lbs of torque at 3k vs. 8k rpm...

Point being: If you know generally about the motor, just quoting psi will give you a pretty good idea of the power the motor is putting out and also how much stress the engine is under.

I can try to clarify more if you want...

No i understand now, thanks, however when people still advertise their turbo products that arnt vechile specific they still only rate them by "up to 22psi" which to 16y/o kids who think they are cool might want but to actually know what to put on your car you still need to know the volume.

When they advertise like that ... Those companies dont know $#!T about turbos period... Thats why I like Garrett they advertise lbs per min... Like the turbo I'm getting is suppose flow 75 to 78lbs per min... And lbs per min can theoretically equvalant to horsepower...

For example:
A GT2540R flows 44lbs a min and thats the 0.82a/r turbine housing... And it can theoretically make 440rwhp on a MR2 turbo with the supporting mods...

so thats the reason why I consider Garrett turbos the BEST in the Business!!!
