Can I install a 1MZ-FE engine in a 1997 Toyota RAV4? Will it hook up to my exsisting gear box? It has a 3SFE 2.0 Engine, a 5 speed gear box, 4 door, 2WD vehicle.
How close is the 3SFE to the 5SFE? If a 1MZ can be mated to a 5SFE tranny, and a 5SFE can be mated to a 3SFE tranny, then it should go, no? Or maybe use the 3VZ or 5VZ with a 5 speed out of a truck? I don't know, just throwing out ideas. Wait, is the 2WD RAV4 FWD? If so, why not just get a tranny with the 1MZ? Figuring out the axles might be easier than fitting the engine to a different tranny.

3SFE-5SFE - same engine family. 5SFE is the newer engine, and has bigger displacement (2.2L vs 2.0 in 3SFE)
IIRC, 1MZ and 5SFE trannys are different (A141 on 1MZ and A140 on 5SFE autos) so if the RAV4 did have a 1MZ dropped in it, you'd have to buy a v6 tranny to go with it. As for whether or not that tranny fits, depends on the following: RAV4 is on a shared platform/frame (think Camry/ES/Sienna/Highlander/Avalon), but I don't remember if its off the Corolla or off the Camry. If off the Corolla, there will be one helluva fitment issue. If it's off the Camry, it should drop in, unless its one of the AWD RAV4's then its a whole different issue.
^Totally off topic question for ya B Deuce, what's your sig mean?
