you have to just have the knack to weld good....if you don't, you're gonna take a while to learn...a few months at least.
My welding instructor told me that i just had the knack for it...i had a really steep learning curve, and it took me about 1 month straight to get clean TIG welds for steel. I still don't know how to weld aluminum though and welding thin material to very thick material is still a bit difficult for me. So you see, even wehn you do get the hang of it, you're not going to do a clean, proffessional job until a long while of doing it.
Secondly, a mig welder is an option to be explored. However, getting used ot the feed on a mig takes time as a frequent noob mistake is to leave to much fill. that means you'll have a huge metal lump on the weld...that translates into a sh1tload of grinding.
Also, whoever is the owner of the house will not be too please with the hydro bill once you've got one. THose things drain madddddd electricity...especially if you get the 220v one. I'm not discouraging you from doing it, just realize its a not as easy as just slapping on metal, weld and boom...finished material.
